South Downs drive
Day trips and outings. Good coffee and farm shops near Chichester
Thai Kitchen
There are three Thai restaurants to choose from in Chichester but don’t expect authentic, home cooked and independent. There is Niyom on Hayling Island and Thai Time in Arundel and one of the Thai restaurants in Bognor is supposed to be good. But it’s trip into Portsmouth for anything resembling Thai street food at Saros. There are a few more indepentently owned cafes in Southsea which I gaven’t tried as well as Na’s Bar & Galley on Kemps Quay in Southampton.
Steaks
A well cooked, as opposed to a well done steak is difficult to find.
And the last place I would expect to find it, is an Italian restaurant. But this is what you get at Piccolino’s in South St.
Say no more.
Busking
You will find Buskers in most cities, on most days. Chichester is no different. There are some incredibly talented musicians playing to the crowds that drift slowly by.
Occasionally stopping to listen. A timeless story. One with many endings. But always a common thread.
And sometimes even despite the rain.
Coffee shops
Even if I had an ear for it, I would never dare to take them up on their offer.
You can tell just by looking at it that you want to know what you are letting yourself in for.
And its much the same with both the coffee and the certified organic wholefoods you find at St Martins Coffee. A bit intimidating at first.
But there is no need to make a public spectacle of oneself.
There are plenty of secluded spots where one can hideaway, with a newspaper to watch and observe before taking the plunge.
“Since our inception, June 1979, we have never used microwave ovens, aluminium pots, artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or tin openers. No industrial chain shop, factory, mass produced convenience meals will ever be served to you here.”
The property has a 18th Century facade and mediaeval interior that has been sensitively restored and furnished with an eclectic mixture of beams, log fires and enticing hideaways. Giving one every reason to expolre the twists and turns and the journey to the toilets on the third floor is an experience no visitor to Chichester should miss.

Food trucks Chichester
Have zipped past the Fuel Stop Cafe many times. Always been in too much of a hurry.
But if you are looking for something different, a quirky breakfast cafe. For the best food on the move in Chichester, pull over and take a bit of time off to enjoy this roadside stop.
Almost a food truck, not quite your traditional greasy spoon. The Fueln Stop Cafe is one of a kind.
